Welcome to the Amend CIVICS Lesson

As young people get ready to engage with their local governments and assume leadership in their local communities, understanding civic responsibility becomes crucial. As such, the CIVICS Program at the IOP offers programming to prepare young students by stimulating students' basic intuitions about justice and civic responsibility. In collaboration with the CIVICS Program, the Amendments Project has developed this lesson plan to allow students to directly access and interact with both our database and explore what it means to petition the government. Within the slideshow, each speaker's note has explicit teacher instructions and time stamp estimates. Additional resources are also attached. Please advise that this lesson is aimed to take approximately one hour and is geared towards students aged between eight and eleven years old.
